How Much Peanut Butter Can Dogs Eat?
Peanut butter is high in natural fats and protein, but eating too much of it can contribute to obesity and other health issues like pancreatitis. You can perform one of two methods to determine how much peanut butter to feed your dog on a regular basis. Calling your veterinarian and asking for advice is the first and most dependable option. This is especially crucial for dog owners who have pets who have diabetes or dietary sensitivities. The 10-percent rule is the second alternative. Treats should not make up more than 10% of your dog's diet in general.
Peanut butter with xylitol — a sugar substitute — is toxic to dogs. The good news is that you can find a variety of safe peanut butters made specifically for pets with all-natural ingredients.
A good rule of thumb is to put kibble or another healthy treat in the majority of a Kong or stuffed toy and to top it off with a small amount of peanut butter at the top.
While dogs can have pet-safe peanut butter made without xylitol, this should still be an occasional treat and not a daily habit.
