What Is Special About a Chain Dog Leash?
A chain dog leash is a leash where the main length from the clip to the handle is made from a metal chain. Some people prefer the look of chain leashes, but the main purpose of the chain is to prevent dogs from chewing through their leashes. The handle may be made from leather, faux leather, or nylon or polyester webbing
Chain slip leashes, where the chain goes around the dog’s neck, can severely injure dogs, but regular chain leashes attached to standard flat collars or harnesses are perfectly safe for dogs.
Thick chain leashes may be too heavy for small dogs, but you can find extra fine chain leashes that are far more lightweight. They’re a great option for use with puppies who like to chew on the leash, while they’re in training.
We'd recommend choosing a chain dog leash between 4 and 6 feet, depending on the height of your dog (longer for small dogs and shorter for big dogs). It shouldn't be too long because you'll need to grab onto the chain to get closer control of your dog, which is uncomfortable if your dog is pulling.
